I think if the Tory party puts the past behind it, it will be a lot easier for everyone else also to do so.
I am not a fan of Liz Truss but I trust (so to speak) she will turn out better than many of us fear. The grisly nonsense of the leadership campaign led to a lot of rubbish, I believe, being spouted,
Now reality kicks in.
Reality is going to kick in for most people this winter. But Liz Truss and the rest of the politicians don't have a clue what reality means for the ordinary folk of this country. She says she understands peoples' concerns about the cost of living crisis. She may well understand it, but that isn't the same as having to live the reality of it. She'll be no different than any other politician, pretending to know about things when she actually knows kall. And our cost of living will continue to rocket.
Up to now Truss has had to appeal to Tory members to get elected.
Now she has to appeal to voters.
Which means a very different approach to the cost of living crisis than the one she had been hinting at.
The driving forces behind that crisis come largely from factors external to government policy thus far, and affect a lot of countries.
The choices are to ease the pain for people or to cave in to a fascist dictator.
The first couple of minutes of it would have made Narcissus blush and I was almost sick in my mouth.
As for the booster rocket bit, I’m sure he’ll be putting that to use with somebody else shortly, if previous form is anything to go by.
If only he could end up in the Pacific like he said.
Now strap in for Mrs Flip-Flop, it’s gonna get crazy.
Now the dead have awakened
( sozza once-dead!) - some decent analysis
I thought the first two minutes were like outta an Oxford Union debate and he was gonna keep it short and sweet and in fairyland
And then the awful realisation crepp' over me
God he believes a little of what he saying - aaaa rgh
Clarion, //Liz Truss and the rest of the politicians don't have a clue what reality means for the ordinary folk of this country.//
Why do you assume that all politicians are ignorant of the rising cost of living? They have bills to pay and families to feed and house too - and they're not all multi-millionaires.
What do you want the wealthier to do? Apologise for succeeding in life? Why should they? If they've worked to achieve a good standard of living, good luck to them. Perhaps the suckers of sour grapes should have tried harder.
Good speech from Boris - rallying the troops as always and without a hint of self-pity or accusation. Given the circumstances it takes a big man to do that.
Larry got a mention, Dylan got a mention, Boris compared himself to both a legendary figure of Roman virtue and part of a spaceship ... a very entertaining pack of lies, as usual.
Let's start with this one: “The baton will be handed over in what has unexpectedly turned out to be a relay race. They changed the rules halfway through, but never mind that now.”
elipsis: "Let's start with this one: “The baton will be handed over in what has unexpectedly turned out to be a relay race. They changed the rules halfway through, but never mind that now.” " - just an opinion, an opinion is not a lie.
