I think that the lady was asking where her family originated from. I think that is a genuine question, maybe not the time nor the place but it is hardly a major issue.

perseverer - //If the lady and her charity are so disreputable, why was she invited in the first place? I asked before about vetting or approval. Did the palace simply invite every charity from a list. Perhaps the palace will be more picky in future, and avoid inviting anyone clutching a pack of race cards, ready to play them. //
I have inquired previously, and received only one abusive response that did not answer my question - as to why so many people are so keen to dig up information to discredit Ms Fulani.
I asked, not because I am remotely interested in the machinations of her charity, but because i am curious about why others on here were - and clearly, based on togo's post at 15.21, still are.
I inquired what, if anything, the history of the charity had to do with the incident we began discussing - since to my mind the two are not connected in any way.
The only connection I can imagine, is that people are keen to wreck Ms Fulani's reputation as some sort of revenge for her having 'played the race card' as the tired media cliche has it.
Now let me be very clear, I have stated previously, and will again, that I do not agree with Ms Fulani's behaviour subsequently, when she accused Lady Hussey of 'assault'.
But the fact remains that in the incident that started this thread off, Ms Fulani was the wronged party, and I remain curious as to why some people are determined to paint her in as negative a light as possible, since to my mind, this does nothing to mitigate the offence she received.

naomi - // The palace selects registered charities. They don’t vet them. Theoretically there is no reason to vet them. //
I strongly suspect you are wrong on both counts.
Do you seriously imagine that palace officials simply invite people with 'charity' as their job description to mingle with members of the Royal Family without checking them first?
Really?

You would certainly hope so wouldn't you "Perse". Wouldn't you? I don't suppose that Lady Hussey invited her. Her job would be to vet the "visitors" before they got to anyone important and to provide a bit of "background" before they did. She has inadvertantly unearthed a lot that was hidden from plain sight. We owe her a debt of thanks then do we not.

None of us know for sure how the conversation actually went.
Who is to say she didn't say 'Where do you originate from?''
Rather than ''Where are you really from?''
60 odd years meeting non-white non-British people at the palace and around the world and this is the first time there's been a major problem?
''My ethnicity is African/Carribean.'' instead of the evasion would have probably saved me the andy hughes show nightmare.

naomi - // With what she claimed happened, AH. How do you know when a liar is telling the truth? //
Probably because Lady Hussey was happy not to contradict Ms Fulani - and witnesses' - accounts of what was said, and apologised and resigned because of it.
I somehow doubt that would have been the result if Ms Fulani was speaking falsely.

Have I slipped into an alternative universe here?
Lady Hussey 'unearthed' nothing beyond her own clumsiness in discussing ethnic origins with a stranger.
Any 'unearthing' that has been done is a result of some peculiar need to discredit Ms Fulani, for reeasons which still remain a mystery.
The only 'debt of thanks' we owe her is her courtesy and humility in apologising for the offence she caused, and resigned her position to avoid further embarrassing the Queen Consort..

naomi - // AH, Lady Hussey is far too gracious to drag herself down to her accusers level. The well bred don’t do that. //
They just lack the basic manners to accept that when someone says they were born in this country, they are being truthful.
I hardly think that using the 'breeding' of lady Husey, which itself is a direct cause of her ignorant behaviour, is something to call as her defence.

Khandro - // No help offered for abused white women. - How disgustingly racist is that? //
Yet again you are keen to over-simplify something in order to make it fit in with your hostile agenda.
There is nothing to say that 'no help is offered for abused white women' - that is something it suits you to believe so you can hang a 'racist' label on Ms Fulani because she has miffed you off by defending herself against someone who was rude to her.

naomi - // Roy has made an excellent observation. Sixty years of meeting people of all colours, creeds, and nationalities - and this the first complaint. You’d think an old bigot like her would have put her foot in it long before now. Strange that. //
We can't know that can we?
Maybe it's the first time that someone didn't indulge 'an old bigot' but actually called her out on her rudeness.
Since we are simply throwing scenarios into the air, mine is as valid as yours.

perseverer - // Togo - Do you know if Lady Hussey's previous role as Lady in Waiting involved her in a similar role as you think she was there to fulfil at this gathering , and I use the word know deliberately? //
He doesn't, how could he, but he'll probably flam something together to suggests that he does.
That seems to be the way on this thread - people simply adopt a hostile position, and twist simple reality and facts out of shape to fit it.
