For the ideology of Conservative Cabinet Ministers?
The last time the Government lost control of the economy, the workers would say, ‘we want 13%’, and the employers would offer 9%, and soon the strikes were over. Today Shapps et al reply, ‘you’ll get nothing and we will change the law to ban your Union’. It is as if they believe negotiating is a weakness and that they can ban Unions because Mrs Thatcher did (she didn’t). The Government are deliberately being intransigent, so so they can throw their weight around. It will all end in tears (and a few unnecessary deaths).
A good time to remember the 40,000 unnecessary deaths when Hancock sent covid infected patients back to care homes, and they were decimated.

// I can only think of 2 on here that will have paid more in than they are receiving.//
Nobody knows how much they have paid in towards their State pension. Contributions to the scheme are not identified. Instead the benefits of the scheme are calculated by National Insurance contributions (and not even directly then - only in the form of "contributory years"). This does not get ringfenced solely for the State Pension scheme. More than that, the NI contributions any individual makes do not relate in any way to the benefits received. Somebody currently earning £20,000 pa will pay £984 pa National Insurance. Somebody earning £100,000 pa will pay £6,613 pa - almost seven times as much. But both will receive identical State pension payments.

gromit 11:30 "TTT,
Why will Shapps not let the train operators talk to their own employees ? How does he expect a solution to come about if they are forbidden to negotiate with each other? "
So they don't wimp out and give them what they want, precipitating a general free for all of inflation busting pay rises pushing inflation higher and making it even worse next time. Pretty obvious isn't it?

Oh right. I just wondered if Baroness Mone was part of the general greed? She certainly knows how to increase her income. Did she pass any profits on to her workforce at Medpro I’m wondering? What are the chances of a brand new company getting a 200 million pound contract just two weeks after forming?
