I think the Government has been quite generous re fuel payments, as I wrote on another thread:
£150 - rebate through Council Tax in May
£650 - as a 'one-off payment', actually paid in two instalments, July/November
£500 - Winter Fuel Payment in November/December (OAPs)
£400 - off electricity bill, paid in monthly instalments from October
£150 - Warm Home Discount (if eligible) in December
That comes to £1,850 for those eligible to all above.

//According to Mick Lynch, management could easily fund it from the previous year's profit of 500 million pounds.//
Couple of problems there, you cant take the whole profit otherwise all the investors will go elsewhere and you will have a major problem.
The other big problem with that statement is that if fails to recognise where the extra will come from in the future, and for some that could be for 40 odd years.
And 400m is not a huge amount anyway for companies of that size.

The Government are not employing the train drivers, the Train Operators are.
The Government might decide how much subsidy the Train Operators get, but the Train Operators decide what they spend it on. The Government are not allowing them to so.
Unacceptable intrusion by the Government, and deliberately hampering a settlement. And for no other reason than to wave their union bashing credencials and keep sycophants like TTT with a contented happy smirk on their faces.

yes common denominator of jumping on the bandwagon and knowing seeing a govt that has lost much of its support - and knowing that while private sector staff know that they can price thereselves out of a job if employers cant afford it the public sector staff can always argue the goverment- thats us the taxpayers' = has unlimited funds
