Hope they are all recovered ok.

"...........but David Pogue, a journalist for US broadcaster CBS, had some misgivings about his prize assignment as he climbed aboard last summer.

If the mission was grand, “Titan” the submersible ferrying passengers almost two-and-a-half miles below the ocean, was anything but.

No roomier than a minivan, it was, incredibly, piloted by a video game controller; its lighting purchased from a camping shop, construction pipes making do as ballast.

“I couldn’t help noticing how many pieces of this sub seemed improvised, with off-the-shelf components,” Pogue reported. A far cry from the famed majesty of the ship it was off to see."

Daily Telegraph
Are we actually sure there is a serious problem? We have lost contact; it doesn't necessarily mean they are in danger, maybe the "radio" is broken but everything else is still OK.
I don't have a lust for adventure, extreme sports and don't understand those that do. The thought of going in this submarine, or potholing or climbing Everest leaves me cold. The silly thing is that those that do go in the sub to see the wreck will be peering at it through a small Perspex screen and will probably get a much better view on a big screen tv in the comfort of their own home.

I sincerely hope this has a good ending.
Khandro, that thing surely can’t be cobbled together. The pressure at that depth is enormous. It has to be purpose built. This wasn’t its first outing was it?
Khandro 09.03 Done, for all of them aboard.
^^^^^ No but I'm sure it will be the last.
I think you’re right, Sharon.
naomi, further; "Paul Henri Nargeole, the French diver known as “Mr Titanic”, is feared to be aboard, according to the French newspaper Le Figaro.

Le Figaro said that while it had “no confirmation” Mr Nargeole was in the submersible, the 73-year-old had confided some concerns about the expedition to his relatives before his departure.

Mr Nargeole reportedly said he “did not trust this new composite material submarine with a 60cm porthole, but I’ll go anyway for the beauty of the expedition”.

It's actually 53 cm diameter, but that even so sounds like a huge area at that pressure.
Good grief!
jourdain: me too, - first thing this morning
I saw a headline earlier that claimed some expert(s) believe the vessel has already imploded.
It's all too horrific to think about.
it was described as a round transit van with no seats, with heated walls
if they lost power the cold will set in, and it has no tether, so basically with power its can move, no power it will sink, let alone x amount of oxygen, does not look good sadly, but you never know.
And at that depth pitch black. Horrendous doesn’t describe it.
there aren't even windows on this thing... when you get there you "look" at the titanic through video screens

i wouldn't be surprised if they just pocket the obscene ticket price and play the same video every time without ever going near the wreck
also the thing is bolted from the outside... even if they are able to rise somewhere the sub cannot be opened from within

i think that they are probably dead
How horrific to be in the submarine. Lets hope it ends happily.
Untitled, it has a window. See khandro’s post at 16.51. Also I’d be very surprised if there’s no way to open it from the inside - although the of course that wouldn’t do them any good at that depth anyway. Where did you get your information?
// there aren't even windows on this thing //

see the L/H end of the picture at the top - it has a viewing port
https://oceangate.com/our-subs/titan-submersible.html

// i wouldn't be surprised if they just pocket the obscene ticket price and play the same video every time without ever going near the wreck //

if they were going to do that, there would equally be no reason to take it to any great depth, and its loss would be very much more unlikely.
It seems that a British rescue mission has been blocked by the USA.
