Have just heard that the Portugese police are intending to charge Kate McCann in connection with Madeline's disappearance. Is this anything to do with the DNA evidence that was sent for examination in the UK? Anyway, I can't believe that either parent had anything to do with it. What do other AB'ers think?

If it is the parents (or one parent) it isn't unheard of is it? it may well have been an accident, or indeed on purpose. Reading cases in the past, I don't find this theory unbelievable. However I will still reserve 'judgement' until further evidence is found.

I believe the police are clutching at straws..after all there was never any evidence of abduction so the next port of call would be the parents.

The news is changing quite frequently on this, but sky news say that she could be charged with 'accidental death' of maddie! - what on earth type of evidence have they got to come up with t hat???

I would be disappointed but not surprised to learn the parents are guilty.

I think the scenario is quite simple - sedate the children at bedtime so they go to the restaurant safe in the knowledge the children are fast asleep. For some reason the child reacted badly to the sedative - perhaps an overdose - and it was enough to kill her. Or she vomited and was so heavily asleep she didn't wake up and drowned on her own vomit.

I think the child is either at the bottom of the sea, weighted down, or under a new road or building.

As I said, I would be disappointed if not shocked if this is what happened.

Did you hear about some deep foundations next to their apartments that were filled in a day or two after she disappeared??

If that's the case, wouldn't Gerry be involved? Oh gosh, not sure, but if they are innocent, what a thing to be going through! Just hope the evidence is good and not just clutching at straws!

Ethel you have typed what I was thinking..but I didn't have the confidence to do it myself.

As there had been a witness report of Maddie crying for a few hours a couple of nights before, maybe a sedative was used this particular night.

Not keen on theories at this stage..however it is hard not to think about scenarios.

You never know, john. Doctors have been known to over estimate a dose.

johnlambert - I know they are both doctors, but errors can be made. If the child had been sick or had a violent reaction to the drugs this is not always foreseeable. And drowning on ones on vomit when drugged / drunk is not an unusual occurrence.

i knew all along that she had something to do with this.
this so called grieving mother has not to my knowledge,,shed a tear for this poor girl.i do hope i am right and that she does get charged for her murder/kidnap.

i was watching the news earlier and it showed her coming out from 11 hours of questioning, they said she was worn out blah blah blah, but she still stood at the police doors at 1 in the morning and let photographers take pictures, obviously not that worn out by it all

Just thinking about this, if an accidental overdose was true wouldn't it have been easier to say that she had taken medication by accident and put up with being called neglegent that cover up like this?
