the reason that prince andrew's behaviour gets defended or downplayed is because he's royal and to acknowledge the obvious would fatally damage the royal family as an institution

I really can't see that Zac. No being a feminist in any way, I think most women I know don't get any more emotional about wrong doings to women than they do to men. Men are not the baddies.

Barsel has quoted true facts. I still see Virginia as being a very nasty piece of work. She was paid very well by her ex employer who she also lived with,for her three appointments with the Prince. In no way she was forced. She was at that time part of the team. 20 years later she seized an opportunity.

Someone on here has said that Andrew got away lightly at the time of the trials because he is royal. Were any others in the group punished? They were basically a group of stupid rich blokes, one of whom was Trump, as evidenced in photos.

If Andrew was my son, like most parents I would probably not know what he was up to and if and when we found out years later, he wouldn't be pushed out of the family. But being Royal has actually made it worse for him, not better as suggested. As a grown man and Prince of the realm he should have been a lot more careful and steared clear.

The Queen was a pragmatist - you don't get to rule that well for that long without that skill.

She put the monarchy first, as she always did, and as soon as she understood just how much damage Andrew had done with his interview, she moved swiftly to curtail his activities and remove hm from platforms where he could do more damage.

I understand her willingness to cut off the publicity before it could ruin her jubilee - monarchy first once again - but of course the by-product was her son's trial in the court of public opinion, where he remains guilty as seen, and always will.

Sorry I'm late to join the party, but I just have to add to Andy that not everybody sees Andrew as guilty. As has been said numerous times, what was he guilty of? I know others as well as myself, would be ok with Andrew coming back to carry out Royal duties. King Charles might need him in the future as a lot of the working Royals are getting on in age even Charles and Camilla.
