When Does An 'Ordinary' Muslim Become An Extremist?

We're often told that there is a difference between 'ordinary' Muslims and extremists, so ignoring those who call for violence and Islamic domination as they march in support of Palestine, but thinking only of the Muslim school children and their parents and supporters who are making news by intimidating students into adopting the hijab, to observe Islamic fasting rituals, and to withdraw from some school activities because they are considered 'haram';   the student who is battling her school in court (at the taxpayers' expense) for the 'right' to pray during school hours, the protestors outside schools, causing one to close early in order to protect staff and pupils, and those who are threatening teachers to the extent that they fear travelling on public transport, one of whom is still, after a very long time, in hiding.   The people who are responsible for all of this carry on their regular everyday lives living among us.  Are they 'ordinary' Muslims - or are they extremists?

The thread isn't closed and there's no reason to close it.

I doubt the thread would be closed when both the head boy and head girl are in full flow.

There's no reason to close it, Douglas.

Dougie, give up. The two stars don't have a sense of humour or any sort of understanding apart from their mutual love of a last word. You should go on stage, not on AB's platform.

How do you know he was an ordinary Moslem.  I would presume he was an extremist already.  You can't judge all moslems by a small   percentage,

Countrylover - Some of us, or rather them, have that gift it seems.

Utterly bizarre. I suggested he was seen as a normal Muslim until he made the knife attack. Countrylover suggests he was already an extremist and is backed up by mr hughes

Who is the Islamaphobe here?

Your wrong, I asked how you knew he was an ordinary moslem  before his crime, my presumption was  that he was already an extremist .  The thread is about moslems turning into extremists

CL. You're very patient. But is it worth it?

Atheist thanks, but your right.   it's  not worth it.

But I'm enjoying Dougie's input

So it is best to assume that when a Muslim commits a crime he was always likely to commit the crime?

Interesting that Athiest is also onboard with that.

Nothing like the 'So' Rule to keep a thread ticking...

Where did i say that?

Where did I say you said that?

Roy - // It's the bit where you said // Countrylover suggests he was already an extremist and is backed up by mr hughes //

It's just above this, if you raise your eyes and read it.

Red - You've confused me?

//....this thread was about ordinary moslems and at what point they turned into islamìc extremists and it is posted in the society and Culture section.  It was not about individual crimes.//

Please explain how you can talk about Islamic extremism without talking about the crimes they commit?

It's like wanting to talk about football without mentioning football matches, players or teams.

And talking of teams; you and andy-hughes make a fine one !

🙄

Because it was not  in the question.

If a question asked, say, what's the average age that footballers retire I would answer appropriately  not bmentioning teams, games etc.  Simple really isn't it!!

Andy and I are in no way a team.  We have had our differences on many occasions   But we have never resorted to rudeness or nastiness of any kind or sniping That's the difference.
