Why would I want to 'befriend' a God that admits that it creates evil?
Isaiah 45:7...
//I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things//

Hope Theland hasn't gone to play in the park ;-/

That's a shame that Theland has left the thread. Was hoping for some sort of sensible discussion sans You-Tube vids. Ah well. Says it all if someone posts a single link and then runs away imagining that the question has been answered.
Ok Nails, Theland posts all sorts of religious ***.

He's getting towards the end of his useful life and is panicking as to what awaits.

Cut some slack, humour and cajole.

Morning Oz, I used to be a fundi Christian when I was young so I know how his mindset works. Fortunetly I began thinking for myself, instead of believing what others thought, and freed my mind from superstitious nonsense.
As an agnostic I understand.

Sorry you were sucked in by religious nonsense when you were young Nails.
When you're getting towards the end you may be able to make the decision that suits you.

Others struggle
Was religion invented (by people) for the young and the old?

The young know no different and believe what they are told. The old are near the end and want their life to have been about something more meaningful and lasting. And those in between just see futility and so look to a Devine being to fill the inevitable void of existence.
It is necessary for evil to exist in order that there can be goodness.
You can have evil without goodness, but not goodness with out evil.
Religion will surely have started to explain everything; but will have proved useful in other areas over time since.
Nailit- are you actually wanting an answer to the question, or rather wanting to use this forum to belittle Christianity and attempt to establish the superiority of your logic over the faith and beliefs of others?
It’s a rational question and when being encouraged to believe in this God, a simple one and a fair one. Why would anyone want to befriend a God who confesses to creating evil? It’s a question that Theland’s link doesn’t answer.
"so I know how his mindset works. "

Don't judge a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes. Everyone's perception of the same thing can be different. Especially if people are sitting at different angles. You may not understand Theland or his views as much as you think you may. On the other hand you may be bang on. but who knows.

//It is necessary for evil to exist in order that there can be goodness//
By that logic, there must be evil in heaven/paradise then?

//Nailit- are you actually wanting an answer to the question, or rather wanting to use this forum to belittle Christianity//
Here we go!! I 'dare' to ask a question that might make a religionist a little uncomfortable and straight away I'm somehow belittling/attacking/mocking Christianity? Why do religious people always play the martyr when questioned? As naomi points out ''It’s a rational question and when being encouraged to believe in this God, a simple one and a fair one''.

Spath,
//Don't judge a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes.//
But I HAVE walked in those shoes...and worn the same rose coloured tinted specs and had the same cognitive dissonance.
//You may not understand Theland or his views as much as you think you may//
I may not understand Theland the man but I certainley understand his views of Biblical Literalism, because I used to share those same views.

I was hoping against hope for just ONE exchange of opinions/ideas on just ONE biblical verse and Theland's copy and pasted someone elses work and jogged on hit and run style.
Remarkable.

As i said.. everyone's perception is different.. you may think you've walked the same path but 'god' speaking out in different ways to Theland is something you've never experienced, or at least his perception of what god has said, why etc..

Just because you were both the same religion does not mean your perception of that religion was exactly the same also. Everyone's perception is different
Question Author
//you may think you've walked the same path but 'god' speaking out in different ways to Theland is something you've never experienced//
How do you know I havnt experienced God speaking to me?
As a fundi Christian I certainly had times when I believed that God was speaking to me. (until I discovered critical thinking skills)
nailit; Think about it; without evil there would be no goodness, similarly if there was no dark, there would be no, what we call, "light", it would be the permanent sole condition requiring no description.
That's not what i'm saying.. what im saying is god may have spoke differently, said different things etc.. Implied different life lessons to you both.

I get the impression you're younger than Theland.. Meaning if theland is still a christian, and you're not.. then your paths and perception with the religion is clearly different.
I think what Spath is trying to say is that we never see, feel, hear or think precisely the same as another person in a same or similar situation.
Yes more or less
People take religions, and apply them to their own lifes. Your lifes are probably quite different, meaning what you take from the religion will be different to each other. And the sentiments that you take from it will also.
Question Author
//Think about it; without evil there would be no goodness//
And again, by that logic there must be evil in heaven/paradise?
