There is no data or information out there. There is only things.
We create data and information by observing the things and thinking about them. When we observe that there are two things, and that one is red and the other is blue, then we have created data and information. We can then pass that data on to other people so they don't have to observe the things or think about them for themselves.

No part of it is confusing to me ludwig, but I think you may be confusing creating literature with information. Nothing in the stories is new information, it's simply old knowledge arranged into something interesting. It's all down to definitions. It's not simply about new arrangements of old language.
