position in atheism on a scale of 1 to 7 (1 = I know that there is a god; 7 = I know that there is not a god.) He said he was a 6, which is where I would put myself, and possibly many atheists would do the same. You cannot prove a negative assertion, so all I can do is state my best assessment. I don't claim to be infallible or right in my assessment.

Khandro - // Hans: My intel. on the torching of Notre Dame de Paris is that it was done by a deranged Islamist workman (shhh!)
What the eff has God got to do with that? //
Surely nothing happens on God's earth without his knowledge and tacit agreement? Otherwise he would not be the God you worship, would he?
Unless of course you are suggesting that he gives a swerve to acts of destruction if they are committed by non-Christians?
But then, how would you account for the sacking of the Holy Land by the Crusaders?
Explaining God and Christianity really is a tough job isn't it?
Never mind trying to explain issues like the Notre Dame incident - non-Christian involvement isn't really good enough is it?
I'm so glad you've picked it up rather than me!!

So what we have learnt on this thread is that, despite the advances of 20th century (& earlier) psychology, some posters still believe a new-born child is tabula rasa, & all those who uphold religious beliefs are people who think that God is some kind of giant interventionist puppeteer with the ability to stop maniacs from burning churches.
I wonder why I bother!

Since all you do is preach your beliefs endlessly, then ignore sensible reasonable questions, then get really nasty with people who prick holes in your nonsense, then whine and play the martyr, and then go round the entire rigmarole again ad nauseum -
i wonder why you bother as well.

If God can create the universe, and raise his son from the dead, i would think that saving a building dedicated to his worship would hardly be a stretch - but apparently it was, and will be again.
Any ideas why - and I ask that, safe in the knowledge that you could no more stop posting your endless nonsense on here, than cut off your legs with a rusty tin lid.

Khandro.....In your posting at 13.10 today you have given me thought that you disapprove of people who, in your own words, " think that God is some kind of giant interventionist puppeteer with the ability to stop maniacs from burning churches". Permit me therefore to ask "Who created the maniacs." ? Do you still believe that God created everyone in his image. ?
