okay religious people, can you explain to me why your God lets such bad things happen, please? I am bemused.
apart from what we hear/see on the news, I had a terrible childhood, I've grown up and seen such bad things happen to good people (and vice versa), and this week my daughter's 16 year old friend died in a dreadful accident.
I'm not after sympathy.. you've probably all been through something similar.
but why does your God allow such things to happen?

There is something in the bible, I haven't read it, where God basically leaves us all to it because we are so sinful. The only ones he protects are the ones that asked him into their lives.
I don't buy it....how is a 7 year old brought up by a pair of junkies to know how to ask God into their life. Or are there different rules??

There are two views about God. One is that he is the prime mover who got the universe going and the other that he is a "personal" being who looks after us.
Man has to have a god because he can rationalise about his situation and knows there are many things he cannot control, the worst one being his own mortality. So he goes for the second option as it offers more comfort.

People in Europe should thank God, if they believe, that they were born where they were. Even the poorest of us lives much better than millions in Asia, Africa, or S America.
But having said that, we're all doomed. Some will die young, others live such lives that they might wish they had.
If there is a God he set things in motion and doesn't care much what happens to us along the way.

keyplus - //However if someone does suffer due to another human being's actions then do not forget that God did not tell him to do so//
You are dodging the question (again).... Sara3 asked why God lets such bad things happen. This omnipotent God who rules everything in the Universe doesn't seem to be able to managed one single human misfortune except in the ecclesiastical fairybook aka the bible.

A Christian believer would know of the trials of Job; whose faith was sorely tested yet he continued to have faith in God.
As for non-believers, an unfortunate death reminds us of our own mortality and of those close to us. Each moment is precious with those you love as it could be the last; live life as best you can for yourself without harming others. Be thankful you & your children are well.
