It never ceases to amaze me how appallingly some people dress when travelling aboard an aircraft. (Well actually that’s wrong. Nothing much amazes me these days). Shorts, in my view, should be absolutely forbidden for men when travelling and those worn by women should be tailored and reach no less than two inches above the knee.
The state some people are in when they board an aircraft to return home is absolutely disgusting. There is no need to wear beach attire at airports. Almost all of the buildings are air conditioned these days as are the vehicles in which they travel. Even if they were not, a bit of warm weather is no excuse to dress inappropriately. As well as this, the problem with the amount of clothing they have to take into the cabin with them and the concomitant scrum for the toilets to change when the aircraft reaches twenty minutes from home simply adds to the bad experience.
As for the premium lounges at airports, I never use them. My experience of them is that you are very little better off by using them. You are still exposed to people who believe that five pints of lager an hour at 6am is a suitable beverage; you are still surrounded by children playing football in the seating areas. You get all these delights in the normal lounges for free so there’s little point in paying for them.

That hasn't been my experience in the VIP lounges at Manchester Airport.

The Concorde lounge in JFK was quite nice!
I went to St Lucia with a friend who goes there quite a bit and can use the Virgin lounge there. She wanted to drag me into the lounge but I would have preferred to sit in the main terminal, peoplewatching. The lounge was pokey, the food was uninteresting, there were kids crawling over my baggage because of the lack of room and then she had the nerve to ask me for the money for going in there. A waste of money.
