I usually read horror, eg. Stephen King, Dean Koontz, James Herbert, but recently prefer crime/thriller. Just finished re-reading the Jack Reacher novels and wonder if someone could suggest another author to try. I've also read a lot of Patricia Cornwell, James Patterson and Kathy Reichs so pretty much up to date with those. Thanks for your help.

Carol O'Connell, she writes about a detective called Kathy Mallory.

I back up the Michael Connelly suggestion, Harry Bosch is my favourite character.

Linda Fairstein writes a good book about Special Victims Unit NYC.

Robert Crais's Elvis Cole series are excellent.
Alex Kava books are worth a read
Michael Dibdin - the Aurelio Zen series
Sjowall & Wahloo - the 10 book Martin Beck series
Andrea Cammilleri - the Montalbano series
John Lawton - the Troy novels
Martin O'Brian - the Jacquot novels

I'm also interested in the spy novels - Chartes Cumming and Alan Furst are well worth reading.
Hi Jan
My wife and I (also Jan) read the same type of books by the same authors and they are : David Baldacci, Scott Mariani and Michael Connolly to name but 3 !!
Happy reading

Arthur Conan Doyle, Wilkie Collins.
Mark Billingham (Tom Thorne novels).
Some that might interest:

Michael Marshall (also writes SF when he appends a "Smith" to his name)
Christopher Fowler (his Bryant & May series crosses over horror and crime)
Phil Rickman (Hereford-based exorcist gets involved in crimes... or are they?)
Mo Hayder (generally very gruesome)
Have you tried the Spenser books by Robert B Parker?
"Address Unknown" written by Katherine Kressmann Taylor....I can't recommend this book enough.
