I've started a new job and after I was offered the job, I was told that one thing has changed since the interview:-
I am no longer entitled to a 15 minute break (I work 5 hours a day...I am part time.... on my feet - not allowed to sit) UNLESS I come to work 15 minutes earlier to allow myself a break...................I am a little confused as I can't seem to find information on this
is there anyone on Abers that can confirm this please
I'm bemused.
Why would anyone want to challenge what's written down in employment law, as acceptable, regarding 'breaks' when they have just started a new job ?
It doesn't make sense.I'd walk over hot coals and jump through hoops if I needed a job
God luck with your new job Anna, i'm sure the 5rs will pass in a flash :)
Wow thank you for your input everyone - knew I could rely on you!
in my previous job I was sitting & standing and was allowed a 15 minute break for the 5 hours I did (or 20 mins for 6 six hours) - that's why I was a little confused but I went onto the Gov website and it does look as though the 'rulings' have changed.
I don't want to rock the boat since I've not been at my new job for long and have got a 3 month probationary period to go through before I am offered the job, hence I'm not saying anything.
There are already a couple of employees who have either knee or hip problems (I myself have fallen arches which are really playing up now & yes they are aware) and they're not allowed to sit either.
I go in early so that I can have my 15 minutes break & take pain killers to get me through the day. I don't really want to look for another job since I have limitations and it's taken long enough to get this one. The staff themselves and my boss are really nice & I'm enjoying it otherwise.
