Windows 7 and swf files

For some reason windows 7 on my new laptop will not recognise .swf files. I have downloaded the player - it says it has installed correctly but clearly hasn't. Any suggestions?

I just learned what chilli can do to your eyes....

Sliced a chilli, rinsed my hands under tap, five minutes later decided to rmove eye makeup. Vision returned after about 20 mins. refreshing, in a hurty stingy kind of way....
