Hospital Bed At Home
246 Answers
It's looking like we may have to have a hospital bed at home when my husband is discharged from hospital.
We already changed from double to singles which is fine but they are both against a wall. Hospital bed will need to allow nurses/ carers to use both side of bed..our second very tiny bedroom is already crammed with other equipment he needs.
Before anyone down sizes make sure you keep this sort of situation in mind.
At this rate I'll be sleeping in the shed!!
I'm normally such an organised person I'm hating this disruption.
The other option is go into care. I really haven't the heart to do that to him. It's like turning someone out of there home.
This isnt a question just me rambling on a sleepless night of worry.

It is amazing what the human body is capable of when the focus is caring for a loved one, old bird. It is obvious from what you have written that you care so much for your OH and I feel that with sufficient help and support you will cope. Let those who will be calling into your home do as much as they can to ease your work load. Thank goodness for the help of nice...

Thank you, yes I was shattered. Fridays heat really got to me, so much so I still felt off yesterday. I am feeling better now but so so tired mentally and physically. I've visited this afternoon as usual. Little change, fed him 2 pots of jelly over the long visit! He like me is hoping he will be moved by the middle of this week, nearer home so I'm spared the travelling. When we left I think he would have gone to sleep as he struggled to stay awake but insisted he didn't want to waste our time sleeping. I'm having another early night. Thank you do much for your prayers and caring messaged. Xx
Thanks again. The move is tomorrow. No idea of time yet but as soon as I know my little man has arrived I shall be visiting to help him settle in..
The was a little apprehensive today but understandable.
He has been in hospital 51 days, I visited 50 of those.
Please keep him in your prayers . Thank you x

Hello, old bird, yes of course I will. Is it the home you were both hoping for? I expect you both will have some apprehension, hopefully your husband's fatigue/medication will mean he doesn't stay awake tonight, but I am not so sure you will be sleeping that well. If the home is that close to you then visiting daily might not be quite so onerous for you. That is a long time you have been visiting him and it does wear you down, I understand that. You have done him proud, of that I am certain. I shall try for some sleep again myself, but after prayers first, dear lady. Try for a rest yourself now. Night night. x
Ann, Google says the home is 3 minutes away but a bit of exaggeration there. Its probable 5 mins in a car. I no longer drive so will need a taxi often as I can't expect my niece to continue running me around.
I had hoped to use my mobility scooter but it's a mixed journey with hills and part narrow path. I am allowed on the road with it but I've no intention of competing with cars Van's or lorries.
Thank you for the prayers xx

Thank you once again. The discharge was a bit chaotic but he eventually arrived at his new residence about 3pm..I was waiting for him.
He is pleased ge has such a nice room. He is still saying this morning i can't believe my luck.
Apparently he had a good night..jelly for breakfast. I'm taking him weetabix later.. he was managing that at the hospital.
The home use a different surgery than we do so a paramedic from that surgery cane this morning to check him over. She set her phone to facetime him with the GP.
No one at the hospital told him he was end of life care..but he knows now..its been a tough morning.
I've come home a couple of hours but niece is popping me back to deliver a few bits to him.. I'm not overly impressed with the care as yet..posh it maybe but tomorrow I plan to wash him myself..x

Bless him, hearing about end of life care is a different thing from him saying he is going to die. Good news that the room is nice, it makes a lot of difference. You have mixed feelings about the care side though, I wouldn't want to let that go on too long. Your niece is good to drive you around but you deserve some help with all that daily visiting. I hope that the paramedic was happy with the state of his chest infection.
Prayers continue, old bird, and I trust you will feel happier knowing your beloved is nearer to you now. Take care. x
