I'm reading a history mystery and in the book the protagonist is invited to look around the house of a lawyer .It's stacked to the gunnels with various artefacts statues ,paintings etc .It reminded me of a museum somewhere in London that was in a private house but I can't remember the name of it .It's bugging me :)
Any ideas as to what it's called ?

and then to top it all, lottie goes and eats my favourite coffee and walnut cake, grrr!
Oh dear Neti. You didn't need that. As much as I like our house sometimes I too yearn for something a bit newer than a couple of hundred years old. But things do go wrong with modern houses too and they generally have much thinner walls. Our house has no foundations and is just a pile of brick and flints held together with old lime mortar and rubble standing on a load more of old flints and rubble. However, it has stood here for 200 years plus, and I do doubt that Wimpey houses will last that long!! I have to laugh when people try to sell us cavity wall insulation. Cavity walls, ha, ha, ha. We do have a lot of cavities in between the stones and rubble (mice and birds make nests in them!!).

The cake was good and I ate two large pieces. I did invite my elderly neighbour to join me, but he's not feeling very well - so I ate his too.

We don't have foundations or damp proof courses either :-(
I am so, so tired. I want to go to bed. Am waiting for Mr LL to get back from Lincolshire, so I can bung some food at him and go to sleep.

Oh, wait a minute, isn't the Halifax drama on tonight - can't possibly miss it. On tomorrow as well!!!! Been the best thing on television for ages.
Neti, we had a damp proof course injected into our house 30 plus years ago. Quite funny really because the walls kept soaking it all in and the drills kept breaking on the flints so it must have cost the builders a fortune. Damp is actually not something we suffer from. Leaky extension roofs from various decades is a nightmare.
This is what our house walls look like Neti

Oh noooooo Neti .I had that if you remember .I opened the top cupboard above the wardrobes and all my bed linen was sopping wet from a leak in the roof after we had the downpours . I had to chuck some of it away .It was all sopping and foisty .We've since had it repaired but I know exactly how you feel .Our house isn't old ,about 1930 ish but it's a leaky hole .We've had it coming through the ceiling too and over the doorstep when it flooded round here. Nightmare .Keep calm old girl and KBO xx

I'm turning into a teevee dosser .The Chase was really exciting today and I watched Britains Best Bakery which has been fab .I like bakery programmes as I used to work for a master baker .And ,he was a brilliant baker .He's the one who sadly died recently .
The Metfield bakery from Norwich didn't make into the final but I'm gonna make it into their bakery next time I'm in Norwich .It all looks sooo delicious :)
Looking forward to Last Tango tonight and tomorrow .The Radio Times says it's a hankie moment :)
I came home from Gone with the Wind once and found it had been raining all the time - so that's four hours or so - and the roof had sprung a leak above the airing cupboard. I had to drill a hole in the floor to let the water continue on down into the garage. Plus a lot of tea towels needed washing and drying again.

I'd love walls like that, Lottie, I'd just like to see a fox get over one of those, he'd have to pole vault. But we are only supposed to have them six foot high, and foxes can jump that.
Wow, the Chase was exciting tonight, Shaney. I love that programme. In fact we both do. It's a must every week day evening!!

Jno, I would point out that our walls do have a roof on top of them!! We don't have high walls in the garden, just hedges and ditches. But we in the country don't see any foxes. I have only seen a couple in our vicinity in 30 plus years and that was not near our garden. They are country foxes, they don't show themselves to humans. We see dead ones on the roads.
All employees planning to dash through the snow in a one horse open sleigh, going over the fields and laughing all the way are advised that a Risk Assessment will be required addressing the safety of an open sleigh for members of the public. This assessment must also consider whether it is appropriate to use only one horse for such a venture, particularly where there are multiple passengers. Please note that permission must also be obtained in writing from landowners before their fields may be entered. To avoid offending those not participating in celebrations, we would request that laughter is moderate only and not loud enough to be considered a noise nuisance.

Benches, stools and orthopaedic chairs are now available for collection by any shepherds planning or required to watch their flocks at night. While provision has also been made for remote monitoring of flocks by CCTV cameras from a centrally heated shepherd observation hut, all users of this facility are reminded that an emergency response plan must be submitted to account for known risks to the flocks.

The angel of the Lord is additionally reminded that, prior to shining his/her glory all around, s/he must confirm that all shepherds are wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment to account for the harmful effects of UVA, UVB and the overwhelming effects of Glory.

Following last year's well-publicised case, everyone is advised that Equal Opportunities legislation prohibits any comment with regard to the redness of any part of Mr R Reindeer. Further to this, exclusion of Mr R Reindeer from reindeer games will be considered discriminatory and disciplinary action will be taken against those found guilty of this offence.

While it is acknowledged that gift bearing is a common practice in various parts of the world, particularly the Orient, everyone is reminded that the bearing of gifts is subject to Hospitality Guidelines and all gifts must be registered. This applies regardless of the individual, even royal personages. It is particularly noted that direct gifts of currency or gold are specifically precluded, while caution is advised regarding other common gifts such as aromatic resins that may evoke allergic reactions.

Glad you have all suffered something similar as I felt terrible, felt really Jeremy Kylish in a tatty house. We apparently have several cracked tiles on a flat roof, so Mr N knows he has to get up and mend them! I was shocked, I admit.

Feel really tired so have cooked, washed up and bathed and am in bed watching EE wearing new pj's. Relief.
btw that is not my house unfortunately!!
Oh yes, Neti, Quite similar but without the sunshine and blue sky. We even have a church close by!!
That is Brill jno I have "borrowed" it and put on FB so all my friends will know how brilliant I am!!!
The stone walls are a meter thick!
well I put metre and it looked wrong, I blame the illness!
I bet he dies in Halifax then, I just can't quite take to Derek Jacoby, he seems simple to me! Anyone see The Poison Tree, I thought that was good.
I was going to say if I lived there, neti, I might ditch the bells and get a proper alarm clock.
"The bells, the bells" I quite like the ringing on high days and holidays. I would love a chiming clock, would remind me of my childhood, my sister has one!
