Why after 51 years of screening 'Doctor Who' was there any need to include a Lesbian scene in the first place?
/// The decision to remove the first lesbian encounter in the show’s 51-year history has angered gay rights campaigners, who accused executives of giving into homophobia. ///

It' all a bit of a non event ( at least until the BBC decided to remove the scene) and tbh if it was a 'lesbian kiss' it was the least erotic thing I've ever seen. It was an air exchange between two lesbian characters, not quite the same thing, nothing erotic or sexual about it at all. Should it have been removed because someone's sensibiities got upset? No because...

/// If you haven't seen the scene, and are basing your impression of the scene on the Daily Mail report, would it not make sense to look at it yourself before determining whether it was or was not a 'lesbian scene'? ///
Blimey I think I will have to get my hammer and chisel out, so as to get through to some about this.
Once again it was not myself who thought it a Lesbian scene, obvious it was the BBC who thought that, and that is why they cut it in case it offended some Asian audiences, so all I asked was if the BBC deemed it a Lesbian kiss, and they knew it might offend some,
"WHY AFTER 51 YEARS OF SCREENING 'DOCTOR WHO' WAS THERE ANY NEED TO INCLUDE A LESBIAN SCENE IN THE FIRST PLACE"?
If that is what it was?

It was a lesbian kiss although drrssed up with the oxygen transfer subplot to try to justify its inclusion. Which in turn makes the decision to cut it rather a shame. As to its inclusion after 50-odd years that's easy. Long-running shows should try new things to stay "fresh" and an interspecies lesbian relationship can certainly do that. Better plots might help too...

Replace your word "fresh" with the two letters "PC" it is not only more truthful but also saves on the typing.

/// ANOTHEOLDGIT, if the scene had not been cut you may not have known about it but you know about it now so does that scene offend you? ///
Ah at last, after 100 plus posts we are now getting there.
If the scene had not been cut, we certainly would not have got to reading about it, and since I do not watch that ridiculous programme, I myself would not have known about it, so consequently I could not possibly have been offended by it.
But before you come back for the umpteen time, if I had been tied up in my chair and forced to watch such rubbish, the scene would have gone over my head completely without me showing any form of offence, except being forced to watch it.
There I have said it, now perhaps you and others can now go to bed tonight and get a much better sleep than apparently you did last night.

This statement is wrong:
"Once again it was not myself who thought it a Lesbian scene, obvious it was the BBC who thought that, and that is why they cut it in case it offended some Asian audiences"
That bit about 'offending some Asian audiences' is simply wrong.
You should read the report in the Daily Mail for the specifics as to why the scene was removed.

I genuinely don't understand what AOG's issue with the scene was.
It seemed that he was the one asking, "Why after 51 years of screening 'Doctor Who' was there any need to include a Lesbian scene in the first place?"
Well, why not?
Let's assume it really *was* a lesbian kiss.
What's the big deal?
It seems important to him, and the six people who complained to the BBC, but everyone else seems to have taken it it their stride.
We often hear about 'level playing fields' on AB, so why this so-called kiss should be of any consequence to the OP is beyond me.
A programme he doesn't watch includes a scene that he hasn't seen which has then been removed when broadcast by the BBC in regions where the scene could be interpreted as being against local laws.
I, as well as many others, are baffled by the driver behind this thread.
AOG - leaving aside the fact that this wasn't a lesbian kiss - if it were, would you have a problem with it's inclusion in the show.
And if so - why?

I really cant abide Dr Who, I never watched it as a child and even less likely to watch it now, it comes across as a poorly acted and over acted budget series.
Special affects are pretty much at a zero but I'm sure they get to use up lots of washing up bottles and egg boxes when building their aliens and robots.
