I think "virtue-signaller" means someone whose first and instinctive reaction to atrocities like this is to ask herself what reaction to the tragedy expressed on social media will portray her in the best possible moral and intellectual light. The moral and intellectual fashion of the time will inform the virtue-signaller's response, because the virtue-signaller is seeking the approbation.

Normal people will ask a different question: "Who's doing this? Why are they doing it? What can be done about it?".

second arrest made in connection with first attack..5 ,wearing suicide belts...zapped as soon as they exited car in second attack...otherwise 5 explosions in nearby hotels..restaurants etc ...in addition to the casualties involved in the mowing down..fortunately no fatalities in the second..but it could have been so much worse but for the Spanish armed police...

I assume you are being sarcastic (although you say you weren't joking). I wondered how many days mourning the Catalans should be observing - none, 1 day ,a week....?

It's hard to understand what these terrorists think they are achieving. It's also hard to see this sort of thing stopping - more intelligence, less/no tolerance from within the community to those displaying radical ideas, better barrier systems, closer monitoring of previous suspected terrorists-or preferably throwing them out of the country for any offence related to terrrorism or antistate/country activity, better checks on who comes in, and a building of trust between the community and police so more suspected potential terrorist gets reported/identified- all will help but there are always going to be some who slip through the net .
