Slip bottle on floor.... before paying ;)
I haven't read all the comments as there are so many, but I simply don't understand how someone can apply for a job at Aldi, and then dictate what they will or won't serve customers with. It's like having a vegetarian cashier refusing to serve customers buying pork chops!
NAOMI, I don't know what your staff do or hos many of them there are but the major retailers employ tens of thousands with annual turnovers in the tens of billions of pounds.

Given the number of stores and employees, if this were such a big problem, would there not be reports every day?

Your "problem" may be another person's "challenge" or "opportunity" and perhaps you're not as adaptable or flexible as Aldi?
'as adaptable or flexible as Aldi?'

Weak?
How many products in Aldi contain pig fat?

You have a Muslim worker refusing to do the same job as her colleagues, but I daresay she expects the same pay.

My favourite Indian restaurant is run by Muslims and they have no problem selling alcohol to us. I even got given a bottle of wine by them on my birthday.

The Aldi employee, in short, had no legitimate reason to refuse to sell alcohol.
Precisely NoM !
Aldi pays her wages and Aldi accepted her reasons.
Precisely Corby!
Doesn't really matter what someone's local 'Muslim' does in the local 'indian' does it? Aldi is happy with their staff and their reasons so everyone else should mind their own business!
//...everyone else should mind their own business!//

Bit stupid reading this site if you are only interested in the view of those involved.
No Garaman what is stupid is getting your knickers in a twist over something that has been made into a mountain instead of a molehill, where you don't know the full facts and really where in the great scheme of things has little impact in your life!
It's irrelevant whether Aldi accepted there was a reason, clearly they did. The whole debate is about whether it was the right decision to pander to someone's quirk to refuse to do part of the job, and so affect customers and other staff as a result. Is it right that an employee can impose on the whole system by refusing to serve all the shop's products, as the job entails ?

Tough one that. Can't see it being being debated in less than 75 pages.
The site is where people give their view on items in the news, Islay, you seem to think you can tell others to mind their own business because they don't agree with your own view. That comes across as plain arrogance.
Islay........perhaps you had better issue a warning to everybody on AB, that they have no right to comment on any post here, "because its none of their business"

That should cut down on all posts by about 95% !
Islay, of course it matters what other Muslims do in a restaurant, it just proves that handling a bottle of wine is nothing to do with their religion. You talk about knowing the full facts, yet say Aldi are happy with their staff, how do you know that? Aldi might have reacted the way they did,not because they're "happy with their staff" but because they're too damn scared to do anything else.
Some Muslims hand booze some don't
Some Catholics handle condoms some don't
Some Jews eat bacon some don't
See its not biggie if this young lady won't handle booze!
Its not our business to question Aldi's working practices, but you all enjoy getting your knickers in a twist because the young lady in question is a Muslim and it plays right into your prejudice
Islay............I object most strongly to being labelled prejudiced !

We are questioning ALDI here, not the lady worker.

I am not sure why logic doesn't apply here.

If you think its OK for ALDI to allow this sort of thing to happen, than it must follow that you would also support ALDI if a Vegan or Vegetarian worker refused to do his or her job, just because a Customer might have some product in their basket that offended their views.

That is, if logic was being applied, which doesn't seem to be the case here !
//Its not our business to question Aldi's working practices, //

Yes it is, the subject is in the news and that is what this section is for. Dear oh dear.
Everyone's talking about the "lady worker" in this case. I'm sure I read somewhere that it was a man. Not that it matters too much to the OP. The religious argument is the same, but I detect a bit of sexism.
I think we're going round in circles anyway here, aren't we? The latest posts are rehackings of earlier ones.
Islay IMO it's nothing to do with religionists and their 'feelings'. I have nowt to do with religion but I am an ardent animal lover. I detest the practice of halal meat killing for a start, therefore would never consider taking a job where I had to deal with it. Nothing to do with religion, so why would anyone against a certain practice take a job where it concerns handling or coming into contact with what is distasteful to them?

You seen hell bent in labelling people who don't agree with your thoughts especially when it comes down to anything to do with religion or race when most people commenting are not being racist or bigots et al. Why can you not accept that not everyone agrees with your view and trying you to force what you believe on others?

This thread discussion seems fair to me, differing opinions of course, but each to his own. Totally agree with Mikey4444 comments especially at 08:42 today.
