since it's becoming increasingly accepted that gender is less about chromosomes, appearance or reproductive ability but more a matter of state of mind not necessarily requiring reassignment intervention (and the gender recognition act 2004 is likely to be amended to reflect this), are the "X-X" denizens of the Kenwood Ladies Pond Association being a tad unreasonable?

I'm not talking about them. As I said earlier, the very small number of people with genuine problems need care and support. I'm talking about the assorted creeps and weirdos (I know I'll get castigated for using that term) who will crawl from the woodwork and unilaterally declare themselves to be a member of the opposite sex.

Don’t worry - it’s highly unlikely that there will be a large number of people who will declare themselves as transgendered.
Unless you’re talking about the hundreds of thousands of men who will declare themselves to be women so as to use female facilities, such as toilets, changing rooms etc.
I cannot foresee that as something that is likely to happen, but I do see your point about self-certification. Transitioning is such a fundamentally difficult process, that health care professionals need to be involved in ever stage of the process. I don’t think that self-certification makes sense.

I noticed this (Metro version) item last night on the news:
"Around 100,000 ticket-holders will witness a celebration of girl power at this year’s New Year’s Eve firework display in London. The 12-minute spectacle will light up the skyline from the bank of the River Thames on Sunday. Songs by Aretha Franklin, Annie Lennox, Ariana Grande, Dua Lipa and Florence Welch among other fierce females will be played during the women-only second half of the world famous show. The powerful celebration of women is scheduled ahead of the 100th anniversary of women securing the right to vote and will mark the launch of London Mayor Sadiq Khan’s campaign for gender equality."
I note the terms "women", "girl" and even "women-only".
Given the fact that biology and anatomy are irrelevant to the determination of gender what criteria were necessary to be a selected as a performer in the "women-only" concert?

In all cases, it would be a decision taken by the organisers. Every organisation will make decisions based on what their core beliefs are. If the board in question doesn’t accept that trans women are women, they invitations to perform will not be forthcoming.
In this instance, the question is moot because there are no successful trans women pop performers who could be included in the line-up.

Objective in that case. Thanks, SP.
//Good tunes?//
Er, yes. Analogy: I (Bruce) was good at ten, yes ten, events and I'd like to compete in the seven women's event now I'm Caitlin.
Know all the right tunes, don't you, Mamya?

No.
Successful would be someone who doesn't need to be looked up by most attendees on Google.
A large percentage of those attending the fireworks display would know at least one song by Aretha Franklin, Annie Lennox, Ariana Grande, Dua Lipa and Florence Welch.
Very few could name a song by Jayne County.

that's possibly true - although many will at least know the title of her/his (saying that because it was released in 1977 as Wayne County & The Electric Chairs) signature song; which the site sweary filter won't let me reproduce. (it begins if you don't wanna, then has a few words ruder than bottom...).
saw the electric chairs perform this (amongst others) at a gig in York, where they were their support act was the UK Subs. it degenerated into an almighty fight, where myself and a few others felt compelled to leave by crawling underneath the wall mounted benches to the door.....

"Why does everything have to be politicised these days? We can't even bring in the New Year without it being hijacked by the "diversity brigade. In Australia, they managed to make it all about gay marriage. Closer to home, the organisers of the concert which followed the fireworks display in London decided to play female only music during the second half to mark 100 years since the first women n Britain got the vote. That's a significant anniversary, worthy of celebration, but why tack it on to the New Year Bash? Inevitably, London's two-bob chancer of a mayor, Sadiq Khan, had to get in on the act, too. ""Behind every great city is equality, opportunity and progress - regardless of you gender"" he said, in a shameless act of self-promotion, aimed at polishing his feminist credentials. Don't these people ever take a day off?"
With thanks to Littlejohn.:))
No KD Lang either....and why wasn't Clare Balding doing the DJ slot?

How long will it be before some bloke who claims to be transgender sexually assaults a woman in a changing room, toilet or whatever? What will the transgender lobbyist excuse be and how would they propose it doesnt happen again? Perhaps admit it was a bad idea after all? Dont hold your breath. Their ideology trumps women's safety and common sense.
