You sound like Jim. No but … yes but … not me Guv. Leavers didn’t want Europe to bend anywhere or to do anything at all. They wanted to Leave. As much as you attempt to extricate yourself from embarrassing responsibility, this mess must be laid squarely in the court of the Remainers who, in their determination to thwart the democratic decision of the electorate have forced this country into a tangled morass, rendering it a laughing stock in the process. Weak, needy, people afraid to embrace the real world, preferring instead to capitulate in every way to the will of a bunch of unelected control freaks. That old adage ‘Be careful what you wish for’ is so very appropriate here. You wanted to Remain – you’ve got it.

The idea that this is the fault of remainers is just laughable - indeed it smacks of scapegoating. There are 16 million remainers, and all but a tiny tiny cross-section of them have done absolutely nothing since June 2016.
As others have mentioned, the idea that the UK could wheel and deal around the world stage from March 2019 cutting all kinds of great trade deals with new countries is a pure fantasy. It's not possible to disentangle entirely - or at least not without a decade or more of work at doing so.

NJ, yes, small units can very often find their niche and be very happy and successful on it - no question, annihilation is rarely the inevitable outcome but the tribal/elitist type of arrogance you describe can often be seen/felt and we know where on the planet it is certainly not a shortage item. Examples of particularly successful small units are found among the smaller countries of Europe which consistently outperform the bigger ones by most/all parameters of socio-economic measure. The UK is not a small unit, but an independent Scotland would be and the UK would be reduced as a result. I am convinced one of the two would have an excellent chance of doing well - all they need to do is copy what has manifestly brought success elsewhere. Would both benefit ? Hopefully, but everything depends on how much change each would be prepared to take on because they would both start from the UK's present comparatively mediocre position meaning a significant climb lies ahead. And that is perhaps at the core of so many a discussion, some cling to the past and refuse to change.
kvalidir, I remember that during the Iranian revolution the rumour was put about that the Shah and his cohort were bleeding so much money from the country that once he was overthrown there would be (then, in 1978) $3000 cash per year (except some were saying monthly - whoopee) available to hand to each and every person in Iran. Millions upon millions believed in the promise - the Shah was overthrown as we know but the promise has yet to be realised.
It seems it is still possible to fool lots of people and all you need do is fool most of the people most of the time. Even on a relatively small scale scammers do very well these days. It is an interesting observation that even when people realise they have been fooled they refuse to acknowledge it. Would that be clinging onto hope or might it be a kind of denial to avoid exposing hurt pride - maybe both ?

The idea that this is the fault of remoaners is just logical. When you have a side which contains a faction sowing dissent, of course the opposing side feels they need not be reasonable. They are encouraged to sit tight watching the other side, hoping that they'll self dedtruct. And based on May's "achieved" that tactic has worked beyond their wildest dreams. What would be laughable, were it less serious, would be the dissenters' denial.
