Off Duty Police Headbutter

Ahh it all makes sense now! The sadism of the met. Vile. I can not believe the off duty cop isn't facing retribution. Reasonable force? Pffft. What kind of example does this set! Absolutely vile.

As has been said the guy was already restrained If this copper is willing to head butt the guy in full glare of the public ; when any threat was already neutralised ;i wonder what he is prepared to do to other people , when there is no one around in a non life threatening situation . Whatever you think of the guy is irrelevant in the circumstance s I certainly wouldn't...

"they are so small minded to contemplate the risks that were going through the officer's mind"
OK retro, you're saying the officer headbutted due to the kife threat?
Why didn't he do this initially instead of after he was apprehending him for 5-6 minutes?
You're talking nonsense and twisting the story to suit ur warped ideology of cops can do what they want.
The officer was not calming a situation or making a threat less a threat. There was no threat.

they remain convinced that the off-duty officer acted correctly

Exactly, the same view held by those tasked with and who indeed have thoroughly investigated him for his 'crime'.
Thankfully, trial by AB bedwetters isn't yet in the offing for members of the Police Service who had the wherewithall to apprehend and deter a would-be knife-wielding fiend.
Phew!

Thank god, retro and you will be spouting about how he had a knife, when he had no knife.

Well, if you're going to threaten people in a violent manner on public transport, you're going to live and die by the sword.
Or are you struggling with the bit from your own link that says: arrested on suspicion of carrying a knife?
What on earth would lead the arresting officers to make such a wild assumption I wonder?

I think it's you, who is confused.
Don't worry though, i'm a patcient person and will try to explain to you, how this resulted in him not having a knife, but why he got arrested on suspeicion.
As you know, the man threatened to stab some people. This gives the suspicion, that he has a knife.
therefore, he was arrested on suspicion of having a knife.
After further examination, and searching, there was no knife found. You know how i know this? He wasn't charged, he wasn't penalised, it was never mentioned if he had a knife on him in the numerous reports. This indicates, because we've not been told, he didn't actually have a knife on him.
He was then arrested for theft from finding.. and taken to a cell.
IF the guy had a knife on him, it would have been reported. It's as simple as that.
If you think being arrested on suspicion means you're guilty, then oh my you're in for a shock.

LOL, nice try splat!
It's far easier if I break it down, for the hard of understanding:
If you're going to act like a d*** on a train and threaten to stab people, the assumption will be made that you're carrying a knife. Whether you do or not is immaterial, if you are going to threaten people and claim you're carrying one, you will be dealt with in a severe manner in order to neutralise any percieved threat you may pose by your demeanour and actions.
Odd too that many on the train applauded and cheered the actions of the officer, yet none appeared to approach or admonish him.
Why would that be?
Take as long as you like......

Some of the laughter may have been the nervous sort or you could say that sections of society are more and more seeing violence as an answer
-------------------
Indeed. The public like to see swift, instant and just retribution against those who only moments before threatened to stab them I guess........

Well said, Spicerack.
FAO Splat:
from the link in your initial OP link:
‘At this stage no complaints have been received and so no further action will be taken.’ A British Transport Police spokesman said: ‘British Transport Police received a report at 3.35pm on October 3 of a man fighting and making violent threats to passengers on board a train. ‘He was restrained onboard the service and arrested when it arrived at Upminster station. ‘Following a search, the man, aged 29, was further arrested on suspicion of carrying a knife and theft by finding. He remains in custody.’
So he WAS INDEED carrying a knife from the outset.
