Granted, not everyone will stick to the rules, but the effect of the November lockdown was clear: it had reversed the spread, and we were seeing hospitalisations also starting to reduce. That changed in the last couple of weeks, exactly in line with the easing.

You don't need 100% compliance to control the epidemic. Most of us are law-abiding citizens. Even those on this site who object to the rules tend to still abide by them. What you need, then, are competent rules and competent rule-makers.

I don't know about that, zacs, but it should never have been one or the other. They are related. We have had a few messages between family now, and it looks like everyone is prepared and will continue. A bit late now.

Yesterday DD suggested they come and stay with me. I thought about it...but all the possible what ifs told me no. And I explained that. Her answer...bless her..."well, we will have to do lots of video calls then". There is no other way. Now tgere definitely isn't. But now I will worry more about them...and there is still my soul crying out for some human contact. This will all pass.
I do wonder if the mutation is Johnson's get out clause...a way to set harsher restrictions without looking like he's backtracking.
Now I'll read what everyone else has to say...

Tier four one person from a different household outside but not in a garden. No Christmas bubbles so single household Christmas day, support bubbles for severe isolation, mental health reasons.

Absolutely typical of Boris - his 5 day free-for-all idea was b***** stupid in the first place. So now, suddenly, there's this mutation which they've known about since September which gives him the opportunity to do the climbdown while trying to make it look as if it isn't him at fault. What a coward. Why not hands up and say "I totally *** this up."

Haven’t told anyone on here before, but my daughter is in a neurological rehab unit recovering from from a rare condition called Guillan Barre syndrome. She’s well on the mend learning to walk again but she can’t come out for Christmas and alcohol is, understandably, banned where she is.
