Teacake: You're probably right. Coming from a fishing community I'd like to see the deal and, so far, it hasn't been spelled out to the best of my knowledge.

Don't fret. The document apparently runs to around 2,000 pages. As soon as it's available a copy will be sent to each and every one of our MPs and they will religiously paw over every detail to make sure it is acceptable to their constituents. About six hours after they have received it they will be asked to vote on it and you can rest assured that by then they will have digested every last paragraph.

If I could be bothered I'd ask my MP what he thought of it and what convinced him it was satisfactory. As I said - if I could be bothered.

As far as I know the sticking point was fishing ( so we were told?) If the French and others have been given a certain quota of fish to catch, and a certain species, it could well result in even more fish being thrown over board dead.

Well it should be a victory for both sides, if either side enters believing they have been shafted then its a bad deal.

However as 'Sir' Nigel seems ok with it I am too. The devil will be in the detail though.

As for the fishing, I never saw the point of taking it back immediately, we simply do not have the infrastructure in place. Initial briefing seems to be that they will have 75% for 5 years. Seems about right to me, I would have thought over 10 years would have been acceptable, tailing off in the last 5.

when asked about where the EU deal leaves services (which makes up about 80% of UK GDP the best Boris could come up with is "there isn't as much in there as we would have liked".

hopefully that's not a roundabout way of saying "it does nothing at all", which would be like cutting off both our legs without an anaesthetic and asking us to be glad they found a plaster with a pretty picture of a fish on it.

i guess we'll find out when parliament debates the deal.

Most of the fish and seafood we catch is exported.
If we catch more ourselves then we will export more. You do not really need more infrastructure other than a few more refrigerated lorries with a french Satnav installed.

I am very relieved and this is some much needed good news. Although leaving this way will doubtless be costly the facts suggest that leaving without a deal would have been a disaster for this country and thank god we won't suffer it. I do loathe Johnson but whatever role he played in avoiding that outcome i am grateful for.

I have heard some say this means we can leave brexit behind... i doubt it but i bloody hope so!
