I think that the lady was asking where her family originated from. I think that is a genuine question, maybe not the time nor the place but it is hardly a major issue.

AH, You’re attacking other posters on a personal level. That’s not adult discussion.
Naomi - You'd need to ask your friend Roy about that, he had plenty of form in that area.
I’m talking to you.
A close friend of hers says Lady Hussey is a little hard of hearing -not surprising at her age- she was in a crowded noisy room, so it is understandable that she had to repeat the question more than once, I seem to be doing it more & more & nobody has called me any names yet.
Good for you.

Interesting how, when you want to get on your high horse - again - you want to talk to me, but when I call you out on your preposterous notion of a charity founder needing to measure up to your notion of propriety, you scoff and walk away.

Like I said, I admire consistency.
A-H , 'know your place woman' is a deeply offensive remark that you should be ashamed of.
Khandro, you are doing your best, heaven knows, but it' not going to fly.

The response "Yes, but where are you really from?" clearly shows that the response wad heard, understood, and found unsatisfactory.

The response to an answer not heard I'd something like "I'm sorry I didn't hear, I am a little hard of hearing ..."

I know you have nothing to work with in your defence of bad manners, better quit while you're behind.
Margo - please re-read my post, I was being sarcastic.
Andy - not the way it reads to me I'm afraid. The post appears to address Naomi.
AH I agree that age is not an excuse..but it most definitely is a generational thing and no disrespect is intended..
..and I did come across a link on FB that listed all this offended party's past history and she most definitely does have one playing the race card often .... positive discrimination is just as bad..especially when it is played and used in order to attract as much bad media/publicity as is possible.. snow flake alert !!!
Minty, the woman has an agenda.
Margo - sadly, one of the drawbacks of written communication is that messages get lost in translation, as has happened here.

My comment was ironic, given the flack this lady has received merely for defending herself in the face of ignorance.

Had it been aimed at Naomi, I would have made that clear - I accept misunderstandings happen, but I try to be as clear as possible, to keep them to a minimum.
absolutely Naomi... she and Queen Nicola should get together ! lol.. far too much positive discrimination these days.it works BOTH ways.. and folks should just get a bit more pragmatic in life..!!
ignorance is an all encompassing term, genuine naivety and unintentional mis- use of terminology and line of questioning.. give the old dear a break..my gran came out with MUCH worse and she was as non racist as you could hope to fall over..GET OVER IT dearie... move along..
a-h; She is hard of hearing & you are as blind as a bat.
I do not like the way some young people push themselves about to cause trouble. I read that Lady Hussey has hearing problems and repeated herself, and to have to lose a job after the self-righteous outrage of a young person is outrageous. Society should not let the young make the agenda like this.
This woman previously accused the royals of racism and committing domestic abuse (yes, you read that right - domestic abuse!) against Meghan Markle for applying the same rule to her that applies to all non-working members of the family, ie not allowing her onto the Buckingham Palace balcony. It's not difficult to see where she's coming from - and it's not Hackney or Africa.
William, I read that it's part of a Lady in Waiting's remit to find out something about guests before the queen meets them. It gives the queen something to talk to them about.
Yes. I have been angry over this, why should a respectable woman have her life ruined in this way?.
