So England's wicket keeper has found the need to announce that he is gay, does that mean the others will now have to announce they are heterosexual?

In the scheme of things why do homosexuals think it is so important to announce their sexuality to all and sundry?

/// He said he could no longer bear to lie about his sexuality. ///

/// "I'm comfortable with who I am - and happy to say who I am in public," ///

/// I feel it is right to be out in the open about my sexuality. If more people do it, the more acceptable it will become. That must be a good thing. ///

Do they think that they are that important, and that anyone is at all interested in their sexuality? I know that I am not.

i spose he has to what with being on the bbc, it is endemic at the beeb to apologise or cover everything, lest the daily mail brigade start phoning the complaints hotline and writing to points of view.
Hadn't heard of this Steven Davies before (only know of the snooker player). However, just watched the video of the interview, thanks AOG.

He seems a thoroughly nice bloke & I'm glad he's been able to tell his parents, family, friends & bosses, before the media made it into a bigger issue than it really is.

I wish him well & hope he goes on to successfully play cricket for England.

Also there is a lot of difference between someone who is gay talking about being "queer" or using such terms and someone who isn't. The intention behind what is said can be as important as what is said.

Many gay and lesbians will use what are considered to be perojative (spelling, sorry) terms as a way of reclaiming them and demystifying them in much the same way as someone who is black may use a racist term.

I am all for pushing the boundaries of humoour, Frankie Boyle is one of my favouruite comedians who god sake, but disgusing something offensive as humour is wrong.
I remember the time a fellow like that would have been sent to the library with a bottle of whiskey and a loaded revolver. Perhaps these days they could send him to watch Chelsea train?
have a heart sandy, at least give them the options.
But if we say it is okay for gays to make gay jokes ...

... and for blacks to use terms like "black" ...

... aren't we saying that it's one rule for them, and a different rule for everyone else?

(which is precisely what we are supposed to be trying to AVOID!)

Over 85 posts on this one, how is it that questions on homosexuality attract such interest on AB?

That's a rather flamboyant outfit that character in your avatar wears, AOG.
-Ditto- Helen!
At 90 posts and counting, there seems to be a lot of folk bothered about this irrelevance. Surprises me somewhat.
thats just a thumbnail sandy. in the full picture the avatar is doing the i'm a little teapot dance.
and mightywease.. I can't believe you can excuse Frankie Boyle of trying to disguise something offensive as humour! That's his entire act!
Have to agree with JJ, that's one of the major issues, when we're trying to create some level of acceptance and equality, it can be that the original 'minority' party can start doing such thing which will in turn build further walls on their side.
It's like, would you think Jo Brand should get offended if someone were to call her a a big fat miserable bitch.. when her act revolves around calling herself a big fat miserable bitch!
ha, sandy, I had noticed that.... he also seems to be doing the 'Young man...' part of the YMCA dance. You can just see those shoulders going can't you!

/// but disgusting something offensive as humour is wrong.///

Then why is Frankie Boyle one of your favourite comedians?

You still haven't answered the point regarding those gay TV chat-shows guests that are not slow to come out with their own gay innuendos and jokes, all at the expense of the host.
"gay TV chat-shows guests that are not slow to come out with their own gay innuendos and jokes, all at the expense of the host."

its staged, scripted, call it what you like, but ad-lib it aint.

now now AOG, if you're happy to dish out the jokes you have to be happy to take them too! (carefully worded given the topic!)
There's no harm in throwing a bot of light-hearted joviality into a (kind of) serious thread!
