Today all earthly governments are facing destruction even at their own hands by highly developed scientific means of warfare. Well-informed commentators on world affairs are themselves warning all of us of the threatening eventuality.

The basic truths of God’s Word are not complicated. In prayer, Jesus said: “I publicly praise you, Father, . . . because you have hidden these things from the wise and intellectual ones and have revealed them to babes.” (Matthew 11:25)

So Jehovah has caused his purposes to be revealed to those with sincere and humble hearts. (1 Corinthians 1:26-28) Thus, simplicity is a key feature of Bible truth.
I can't help noticing that none of goodlife's comments under the original heading of " impending world destruction" have anything to do with world destruction, and none of his/her comments is connected with any of his/her other remarks. Is this official JW codswallop or just goodlife's personal codswallop ?
Goodlife, anyone who presumes to know what God thinks, as you do, is not humble.

atalanta, it’s official JW codswallop.
She doesn't claim to be humble ! How could she ? She doesn't deny she was made in God's image . What could be less humble than that ?
modeller, I assume you're joking?

Jesus did say: “Happy are the merciful, since they will be shown mercy.” If we treat others mercifully, they are likely to respond in kind. We may find that the mercy we have shown to others will triumph over any adverse judgment that God might otherwise bring to bear against us when we are brought into judgment. (Jas. 2:13) Forgiveness of sins and eternal life are only for the merciful.—Matt. 6:15.
Rather ironic, ainnit, that those who seem to be counting most on a merciful god on judgement day are the same who preach most vehemently of His wrath and petty vengeful vindictive nature?
A valid point mibn2cweus but I think we will be waiting a long time for a rational explanation from goodlife.
What I admire about goodlife is reflected in my 'quote of the day' today.
Quote of the Day;
"Any coward can fight a battle when he's sure of winning, but give me the man who has pluck to fight when he's sure of losing."
George Eliot (1819-1880)

Never surrender goodlife, and God bless you! :0)

“Happy are the merciful, since they will be shown mercy.”

What is the Biblical reference for this? Sounds like a typical JW mistranslation.

Forgiveness of sins and eternal life are only for the merciful.—Matt. 6:15.

And just how 'merciful' are JWs to those of their own congregation who breach the most minor rules of their faith?

If you read further in Matthew's gospel from your quotation you will see that he goes on to condemn religious hypocrites. People in glass houses...
Khandro, I can think of better causes to support.
Of course, if you treat others unmercifully, you will not have to worry much about reciprocation.

Anyone would think that the bible was written by a bunch of subversives, planning to bring down the Roman Empire, in the full knowledge of their own lack of combat ability. What better ruse could there be than to convince them of judgement and retribution, post mortem, should they persist in their belligerent ways?

It has always been about power and control, it seems.

^I like it.

Haha! Love it!

You know the causes of hate are thus seen to be many and complex. Does this mean that there is no way for mankind to stop repeating the folly of its hate-filled history?
Is there anything that can be done on an individual as well as on a global scale to fight the misunderstanding, the ignorance, and the fear that beget hate.
//Is there anything that can be done on an individual as well as on a global scale to fight the misunderstanding, the ignorance, and the fear that beget hate. //

There certainly is. Ceasing to teach religion would be a big help.
The teaching of religion isn't necessarily bad, the hatred and sectarian violence we are witnessing is because of bad teaching and misinterpretation, wouldn't you say?
