Right here goes...... I honestly don't want to start a big debate but for all the muslims out here can someone eplain what your religion is all about?
From what i have seen so far it is very oppressive very negative and also very dogmatic in the way you live your life.
anyone wanna try and change my media influenced views on muslim culture?
and please no-one start raving on about how bad all muslims are- they cant all be bad so i just want someone to explain to me on an unhostile thread what they're all about.

I asked this question of Keyplus, but I'd be interested in your answer too. (Unless of course, you are Keyplus?).
Religion is always a 'hot-spot' in forums, tv programmes, newspapers etc. Different opinions, varying definitions, comparisons, rights wrongs and indifferences. Howwever, democraticaly we are all to a degree given our choice in such matters. Unfortunately democracy has never been and will probably not become universal.
Views will always differ, harmony will always be difficult to nurture, objectives will often be miles apart - but it has always been like that from 'The Beginning'.
AnswerBank/Chatterbank is certainly not the place for racial rants, abusive comments, personal insults or derogatory remarks. Once made, they are difficult to defend with a simple 'sorry'.
It does become somewhat frustratng to learn from the media about 'undesirables' settling in the UK and making headlines such as ''Behead plotter's 20k in benefits''. Yes, ok, he has been jailed for life. But that does not make it easier to accept or understand.
And who was the celebrity who said: ''All Muslims are not terrorists; so why do all terrorists appear to be Muslims.''
No my words you understand. But food for thought.

Sherman - Of course Britany Spears has the right to do what she wants with her body, but is it right that artists like her are selling sex to our children. Just listen to the content of most of the music the children today listen to.
Naomi - I agree with what you are saying but all of these things are asolutely common place in British culture. Just go to your local town centre on a Friday night, we have the highest teenage pregnancy rate in the developed world. Newspapers like the sun or news of the world are completely full of sleaze, as is most of our music and television. It's just that we are accustomed to all of these things so see them in a different light to most muslims.
I work as a Social Worker and see the conseqences of these things every day and honestly it's really terrible, and usually children who end up suffering for it.

Thanks for highlighting that JJ- And that is what Islam stops a person from. Everyone knows what is happening here because of Drinking, and everyone knows that Islam is against drinking. But only if someone does not want to agree with only this point and say "Oh Muslims drink as well and they are women Oppressors". Then Very simply you are trying to accept the reality and change the subject.
Naomi - I have answered your question so many times and there you go once more in BOLD LETTERS. ISLAM DOES NOT SAY A WOMAN SHOULD COVER HER FACE. BUT,
1 - IT IS CULTURAL, YOU GO TO FEW ASIAN COUNTRIES AND YOU WOULD SEE EVEN NON MUSLIM WOMEN WEARING BURQAH (FULL COVER).
Now you would say, they must be doing with the fear of getting beheaded.
2 - In Islam Women does not have to show her ASSETS to look beautiful. Now I do not know if that is respect of woman or oppression against her human rights.
3 Has anyone here ever asked a Muslim Woman why she covers herself, I think by objecting it we are intruding her human rights.
4 If you dress like Muslim women your expenditure on Face lift, Boob Job, Liposuction Botox, and so on would almost diminish. Trust me, Try just once. And I am sure your husband would still love you. Because husband should love to REAL YOU and not the plastic.

So what was going on in the football stadia in Afghanistan, then ?
Women who had the temerity (I almost wrote bare-faced cheek and then realised my blooper) to walk the street fully hidden but either a) alone, or b) accompanied by a man who wasn't her father, brother, etc. were being executed.
And remind me, what does Taliban means?

Media again, Again media, I am not defending Taliban, Islam does not depend on Taliban, but still media made them look a bit too bad otherwise ask Yevone Ridley, why she reverted to Islam. Or go and check your own government's records. And let me tell you one more thing, Your government has already agreed a new deal with Taliban and very soon you would see all of a sudden Taliban would declared CIVILISED.
Media made them look a bit too bad !!!
Ah, that would be our wicked Western media............
So, let's assume that the pictures we have witnessed with our own eyes and the testimony that we have heard with our own ears IS true.................
How can you square the non-enforcement of 'women's modesty' with the brutal and barbaric enforcement as seen ?
And please do not muddy the waters with specious arguments about no-mark government ministers converting to Islam. She can convert to Flying Spaghetti Monster-ism for all I care, but I do care that statistically 50% (although in real terms I believe it is more as there are more women than men) of the worlds population would be driven under-cover if Islam had it's way. And illiterate peasant men with more power than responsibility can condemn a woman to death JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN !!!

Keyplus, it may have escaped your notice, but my question wasn't addressed to you - unless of course, you and Peace are one and the same - which he says you aren't.
You did not answer my question many times, you answered it once, which is why I have no reason to ask you again. Now I would like someone else's opinion.
And I've never picked you up on a typing mistake, although when you were concerned about your errors I did offer you some helpful advice about typing your posts into Word first and running a spell check over them before transferring them into AB.
You really don't like women who stand up to you, do you Keyplus? Never mind, you'll get used to it - although, sadly, I doubt you'll ever get over it.

If they are doing it, who said they are on the right path, Islam does not ask then to do what a bunch of men are doing. Same goes to every single religion. If only people do what their Religions say then 99.9% problems would finish. I know now you would say that you are an atheist and do not care what Religions say.
The way I respect women, I think every one should do, I see woman as Mother, as sister, as daughter, and a legal wife not just as a sex object. I did not say that you asked me question again. I just pointed that you are asking someone else with my name mentioned. No offence done. I appreciate your advice about tying in word and then pasting it, I think I was aware of that, but when I am giving my opinion I believe emphasize should be on what I meant and if people can understand that then we are not here for a language test are we?
Peace 123, I have said the same sooooooooooo many times, But few people are determined not to Understand. In the end it is as a reporter asked Muhammed Ali (Boxer) when he visited ground zero, "How do you feel sharing your faith with people who did all this". He grabbed the mic from him and asked "How do you feel sharing yours with Hitler".
Problem is you give this example here and would have no influence whatsoever, as many are Athiests here. But someone did say Hitler was one of them as well.

But these women DIDN'T go against Islam...............if there is no scriptural imperative for them to be completely veiled, then how can NOT being completely veiled go against it ?
If butchering women for doing things that AREN'T prohibited isn't pointed out to these fanatics as being wrong by other more moderate muslims and stopped, then how can Islam and its proponents expect to have a placed in a civilised world ?
Are muslim men so backwards that the only way to prevent them ravishing any woman is for that woman to be hidden from them ?
I see women, all women, as having dignity and rights and do not believe that they hold those rights only as an adjunct to men's rights or desires.
