-Talbot-...it's not a defence of anyone. It's about being accurate. If you focus exclusively on Muslims you're making a mistake. This is not an issue in Pakistan, Azerbaijan or Albania, Afghanistan or Kosovo.

People need to understand the cultural relevance of FGM. Where it originates from and whose doing it. If it were 'a Muslim thing', then the grey parts of that map would all have areas of colour - right?

One issue may well be that in order to prove that such mutilation has been carried out the child has to be examined intimately. So another assault on a young child. One has also to find out when, where and by whom. One of my ex pupils had this done to her, against her parents wishes,in her country of origin, whilst in the care of her grandmother who believed it had to be done. The victim was very young.

This is how it works. 'They' type a question into their left wing sites, fact checkers, etc.
"Is FGM a muslim thingy"?
They receive a fatuous answer along the lines of;
'FGM is a predominantly African 'tradition', which goes across all religious demographics.'
Aye, they think, that'll do for me.
And then tell other people to educate themselves.

If we had 80,000 Kikuyu in Londonw we'd ha an FGM problem. As it happens we have that number of people from the same part of Africa pretty well all of whom believe in FGM. Why you think they're going to be educated out their beliefs I don't know.

Correction, I do: you believe they will assimilate. If you're right then fine, we turn a blind eye to the practice because sledgehammers don't work and, in any case, it'll be gone in one or two generations.

Have you considered the other option - that they don't assimilate? (Wasn't assimilation considered a post-colonial concept at one time? Not that I can keep up with these things of course.)

jno, his case has been mentioned on this thread - twice. He was a doctor who wasn't carrying out FGM but was attempting to repair damage his patient had suffered. He was acquitted.

Funniest one I saw on here (although slightly worrying) was discussing muslim violence against homosexuals.
One of 'their' leading intellectuals posted; 'It's not just muslims, look at this film from........Chechnya'
