First of all, he's not a 'lad' he is an adult professional soldier - and it appears he did commit a further 'internal' offence - he posted on social media making an inappropriate comment, and it appears that those two actions, combined with his previous disciplinary record, were enough to have him dismissed.

If someone is a 'lad', he can be seen as imature and irresponsible, not much expetced of him, a certain amount of leeway given.
But a professional soldier is not a 'lad' he is an adult with the responsibilities and expectations of adult behaviour that his age and status require.

surely he said there was nothing wrong with the young man when there was - which is nothing to do with religion but is a lot to do with poor medical practice - complain about that !

I understand that during the war, soldiers were probably referred to as 'lads' - but I believe that time has moved on, and we should be aware that modern professional soldiers are not 'lads' and are not expected to behave like 'lads' - they are expected to be responsible and aware of their status, and that their behaviour reflects on the army and on the MOD.
If that were not the case, the MOD would not be investigating and dismissing soldiers, they would be 'lads having a lark' - no harm done.
